In Sarawak, empurau is found in most of the upper major rivers such as Rajang, Baram, Limbang and Batang Ai. In Rajang, three types of empurau are distinguished: empurau burak (white), empurau merah (red) and empurau chelum (black).
Empurao scales are actually eatable Empurau can attain a size of more than 20kg in weight and fetches a market price of more than RM160 a kilogramme. In this case, my beloved father bought 3 fish in Kuching at RM400 per kg recently.
